2013 INDUCTEES, FACES ON THE WALL

INDUCTEES OF 2013: by Brian Zelley

A look at the faces of the inductees for 2013:

THE 2013 PROCESS
Thanks to all those that helped in the nomination
process, and those that supported the nominees,
and the difficult job of those involved in the
final selection including administrators and
honorary directors.

At the end of the process, 19 were selected out
of 30 nominees.  This year we had another
pioneer selection in the from of Vic Murdoch.

One person was added to the all-rounder
category to join Roger Adolph and
Lennie Walters.  The one selected in 2013
was all-rounder Derrick Hoyt.

Junior/Youth category, The one to join
previous inductees Alan Brown and Tony Duffy
in this category was Mickey Griffin.

THE BOXERS:
Some excellent choices including
Gary Wood, Gordie Lawson,
Jack Snaith and Sidney McKnight.
They join some good company of prior
years inductees such as year one when
ten were picked including Eddie Haddad,
Harold Mann, Jimmy Walters, Dick Findlay,
Frank Scott, Fred Desrosiers, Freddy Fuller,
Chris Ius, Dale Walters and Manny Sobral.
I am sure there are many other fine choices
that will be selected in future years.

Women In Boxing:
In 2012, we picked our first two
women in boxing inducees,
Mandy Lapointe and Marg O'Reilly
For 2013 we have added three solid
nominees in the form of builder
Linda Gigliotti and two boxers
with credentials:
Jeannine Garside and Teresa Taylor.

The Builders:
For 2013, a good cross section of builders were
selected including active boxing coach
Wally Doern.
The others consisted of a cross section of
coaches and/or officials.  One such dual
builder was the late Jim Gallagher and one
of the old coaches from the Sixties was
George Nepper. For the Campbell River
boxing club, they received the news of the
nomination of Jim Howie with enthusiasm
and excitement, their joy won the day with
But, the nomination of George
Nepper resulted in some voices
from the past when a former
1965 Emerald Glove champion
by the name of Mike Lazare
who had prepared a tribute
for him followed up with
messages of support.

JIM GALLAGHER, bulder
The late Jimm Gallagher was
an active coach and official
during his many years  with
amateur boxing.  He was a
well respected coach of the
Clovedale Boxing Club.

Jimmy was also involved
as an official with Boxing BC.

There were many time when
Jim and Shirley Gallagher
went beyond the call of duty.
One interesting example was
when the Gallagher family hosted
a special barbecue ath the family
home for member of the English team of
junior boxers who were in Canada for
a 1976 tour that included stops in Vancouver and and Victoria

Stanle F. Smith, builder

amateur boxing with his ivolvement
with the boxing program with the
East Vancouver Optimists boxing club,
service on the board of directors  for the
BC Amateur Boxing Association before
1969 and into the eighties.
Stan would also serve as a volunteer or
an announcer at many club shows  and
tournaments.  Or, be seen in the middle
of the ring in an award
ceremony for many boxers
and builders.

RALPH GALLOWAY

A builder who was active
in coaching at the Richmond  Boxing club but woul be a regular attending
the various club shows with his team of boxers.  Ralph has also served as a
